About me

Working remotely.

Growing up in Cumbria, I have always enjoyed making websites by myself. However, in 2022 I somehow ended up starting a business with a Bedouin tribesman in Wadi Rum, Jordan. This required me to make a website so we could advertise tourism activities in the Arabian desert. After this experience, I realised I wanted to take website development more seriously, and not long after, set up as a freelancer.

Today, I work remotely with clients across the world and have experience building a wide range of websites!

FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

Freelance web designers can offer great value for money compared to an agency, as they have lower overhead costs. They can also offer a more personal service as you’ll always be dealing directly with the person actually working on your website.

For me personally, I don’t rent an office or have any other big monthly expenses. I keep everything simple and efficient, which allows me to offer premium websites to my clients for a reasonable price.

I’d like to think my websites look pretty great, however this is not the most important thing to me. Unlike most freelancers, what’s most important to me is building you a website that has a positive impact on your business.

Not only this, but I am capable of registering your domain, hosting your website, designing and developing it, making it optimised for search engines and can carry out any ongoing maintenance. I can be your one-stop-shop for everything and save you hours of headaches.

Currently, I am working remotely with clients from all over the UK & the rest of the world.

I’m from Penrith, Cumbria (just outside the Lake District), but went to university in Manchester and now spend most of my time in the south of France.

Generally, rates can vary quite a lot depending on experience, efficiency and how much work the freelancer wants to take on.

For me, I charge on a per project basis and prices typically start at around £1,000 for the most basic websites, but can rise to over £2,500 for more complex sites.

I usually break up the project into two payments. The first 50% is due in advance at the start of the project. The second 50% is due right at the end when no more work is to be done.

This can vary a lot, usually depending on the size and complexity of the website. Some brochure websites may only take a week or two, whereas a website that takes bookings and payment make take closer to two or even three months.

I design all of my websites in Figma, and build them with WordPress and Elementor.

I work exclusively with WordPress/Elementor as I feel confident that these are the best tools for most modern websites.

WordPress is a free, open-source Content Management System that is used by over 40% of all websites. It’s used by some of the biggest brands in the world (NASA, Rolling Stone, James Bond) and for good reason.

WordPress has a library of thousands of plugins, which enables you to build just about anything, whether it’s a blog, community website, online store, or a booking system.

My favourite plugin is Elementor, which is a page builder that allows me to create pixel-perfect, responsive and modern designs. It makes website creation a whole lot easier, meaning I can build your website faster, better and with more functionality. Once set up, you’ll even be able to add new content or easily make minor changes yourself. No need to hire a developer every single time a slight change is needed.

I am open to working with anyone, whether you’re a small business owner, an agency looking to outsource, or a larger company. I also have experience working with a number of charities.

Yes, once I have everything set up and live, I can show you how to make minor adjustments to your website. For example, you could change the text or an image, or post a new blog.

Search Engine Optimisation is an ongoing process which requires continual work. This is due to the ever-changing search engine algorithms, and because your are constantly competing with other businesses who are trying to rank higher than you. Therefore I offer monthly SEO services as an optional extra.

However, when I build your website, it will always be Search Engine Friendly. This means your website will be fast, ease to use, and built with search keywords as a priority. I will also set up Google Search Console, submit a sitemap, and optimise title and description tags. All of this comes together to mean your website should not be held back in any way, allowing it to rank well in search engines.

Yes, all of my websites are built to be mobile responsive. Roughly 60% of global internet traffic comes from people on their phones, so this is extremely important for me.

Before I start designing your website, it’s best that you have a think about the questions below:

  • What is the main purpose of my website? (Get bookings, calls, online sales…)
  • What will be the general structure? (Home, About, Services…)
  • Do I have any branding guidelines, logos or images that need to be included?
  • What are three websites that I like?

If there is anything you are unsure about, feel free to contact me and we can work through this process together. Having a strong understanding of what you need to get out of your website is essential for it to have a positive impact on your business.

See Wadi Rum was co-founded in 2022 by myself along with one of the Bedouins of the Wadi Rum desert, Jordan, called Hussein. The aim of the company is to spread the word about tourism in Wadi Rum, specifically to promote Hussein’s camp and the activities he provides. The website includes a blog, Google reviews, contact forms and many more features. As co-founder, I still manage the website, Google Ads, social media, and customer communications. The original website I made in 2022 was completely redesigned and the website was relaunched with a new brand style in March 2024.

After the relaunch, I also began monthly SEO services, which have proven very effective. Daily web traffic has increased nearly 1,000%, and the website is ranking number 1 for a range of high value search terms. The above chart shows impressions and clicks over a 6 month period, demonstrating the effect of my SEO services.

The goal of this project was to produce a user-friendly e-commerce website, enabling customers to easily navigate, enter information and purchase firewood in a logical and quick manner. The main challenge was integrating the site with a pallet delivery company, which automatically notifies the delivery company of a new order and allows Holme Firewood to deliver products across the UK.

Mid-August 2023 saw the launch of the Holme Firewood website, and the launch of the company as a whole. Since then, their website has processed well over 500 orders and has facilitated many more large wholesale orders.

Not only did I design and develop their website. I also have ran their Google Ads, which saw returns of up to 4.5x the ad spend. Alongside ads, I manage the email marketing, have carried out SEO, and host and maintain the website.

iCalendars

The Helton Campsite website enables users to easily book a pitch at the campsite, located in the Lake District. The site also displays a range of useful information, as well as customer reviews.

The booking system I built is integrated with an external booking system that the company was already using, meaning that both systems are kept up to date via iCalendar synchronisation, ultimately preventing the same pitch from being double booked on the two different systems. The website takes payment via Stripe integration and also allows users to pre-pay for add-ons, such as a fire pit which can be provided by the campsite.

Thanks to my website, Helton Campsite can now take bookings without relying on an external platform that takes a large fee, meaning they can charge a lower price to customers, while also making more profit per visitor. Overall this means they should attract more visitors and increase their revenue.

Senclusion is a free membership website, founded by Stockport-based charity Active Community Experiences. Built for parents and carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities, they provide free events, resources, and training to educate others.

For now, they rely entirely on their website to share their knowledge, meaning the website I built had to be robust and scalable.

It has various advanced functionalities, such as user registration, online donations, a members-only area to download resources, an online events directory, and a sport club directory is currently in the works.

For the wider charity, Active Community Experiences, I also run their email marketing and assist with other web development projects.
